How Long It Takes
Delivery of ACH transfers can take several business days, meaning days that banks are open typically not weekends or holidays. Unlike the real-time processing of wire transfers, ACH transfers are processed by a network operator in batches only seven times a day.
Financial institutions can choose to have ACH credits processed and delivered within the same day, or in one to two business days. In contrast, ACH debit transactions must be processed by the next business day. These timelines are based on rules from the National Automated Clearing House Association, or NACHA, the trade group that oversees the network. Upon receiving the money, a bank or credit union might also hold these transferred funds for a period of time, so the total delivery time varies.
NACHA rules ensure that banks can process payments the same day theyre sent, but its up to each bank whether it charges you for expediting a payment.
Transfers Between Connected Accounts
If youre the account holder of multiple accounts within the same bank, such as a checking account and a savings account, its relatively easy and fast to set up a transfer between these connected accounts. This is also known as an internal transfer of funds. Go to your banks online banking platform or mobile app and look for options on how to set up a funds transfer. You also should be aware of the pros and cons of linking your bank accounts.
Youll usually have the option of setting up a one-time transfer or a recurring transfer. Most banks will let you choose to transfer funds immediately or to set a future transfer on a specific date. If your two accounts are already connected, the bank may approve the transfer to happen immediately, during the same business day. If you are connecting to a new account for the first time, it may take two to three business days for the first funds transfer to be processed.
Can I Change Or Cancel A Zelle Payment Once I Have Sent It
You cannot change or cancel a Zelle payment once you sent it. If your recipient has already enrolled with Zelle, the money is sent directly to your recipient and cannot be canceled.
If your recipient hasnt yet enrolled with Zelle, they will receive an invitation to enroll. If they do not enroll in Zelle within 10 days, the transaction will be canceled. The money will not be deducted from your checking account until your recipient completes enrollment with Zelle.

Benefit To External Bank Transfers: Boost Your Savings Yields
Bank transfers are common for people who have a checking account at one bank and a high-yield savings account at another bank. If you open a new savings account, you can link your existing checking account for automatic transfers.
This also works for online bank customers, who often need to link their existing bank accounts to fund their online accounts. These folks tend to get the benefit of better rates while having the convenience of keeping their existing accounts.

Can You Use Zelle With Multiple Bank Accounts
Yes, you can use Zelle with multiple bank account, but you will need to link all the accounts with different phone numbers or email address.
One phone number or email can only be used to link one bank account with Zelle at a time. However, you can change your bank account associated with your phone or email easily using the Zelle app or contacting your bank support.
Let Zelle Make All Transactions Faster
The instantaneous nature of transactions is one of the best Zelle features. And the reason why the app has a growing market.
Connecting your Zelle account to your bank account is a super quick and efficient process. As we mentioned, many banks allow for the same username and password to be used to make the process even more expedient.
Unfortunately, youll have to settle for just one bank account for now, but you never know what the future brings.

Returns Can Be Tricky
Zelle doesnt offer any sort of purchase protection. Transactions happen quickly, and a Zelle payment can only be canceled while its still pending if the recipient hasnt yet enrolled in Zelle. Assuming your small business is the recipient and already enrolled in Zelle, your customers wont have the option to cancel a payment once its been sent.
So if a customer wants to return an item or cancel a transaction, youll have to find another way to refund their purchase.
Sending/receiving Money To Second Zelle Account
Now that you have your second Zelle account set up, everything else is a walk in the park. For example, to send money to your other Zelle account using your banking app, go to the transactions section and enter your second Zelle accounts phone number or email address. Next, establish the amount of money to send and confirm it. If your second Zelle account is set up correctly, the transaction goes through immediately. Thats one of the main benefits of Zelleinstant transactions.
Alternatively, you can send your money through Zelle directly via the Send screen. Enter your second accounts phone number and the amount, confirm, and you should receive the money automatically.
Bear in mind, however, that using the Zelle app directly is significantly less secure than using it through your bank app, as your bank doesnt guarantee your moneys safety when using the Zelle app. Regardless, It is more straightforward, though.
If you dont properly have a second Zelle account established, youre going to have to set it up to receive the money that youve sent. If not, the payment will land back in your main Zelle account in 14 days. There is no other way to get your money back quicker, which can be a problem.

Opening A Joint Checking Account
After you have decided that a joint account is right for you and you have selected the institution where youre going to open the account, you will need specific documentation to actually open the account. Typically, you will need your current drivers license with your current address and you may need a piece of mail verifying that address such as a utility bill.
Additionally, the banker or online banking system will ask you a series of questions and run a banking check through ChexSystems that ensures you dont owe money to any other banks which may prevent you from opening up a new account.
After your account is successfully opened, you should receive your debit cards in the mail. Usually, it takes about ten days to receive them. In the meantime, you can set up online banking and start using your account.
Update: Government Agency Says Banks Should Take Responsibility
We got a response from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau regarding whether banks can claim that losses incurred by consumers who fall victims to electronic-funds phishing scams are the result of “authorized” transfers by the owners of the phished accounts.
Such scams, as detailed earlier in this story, definitely are considered “unauthorized electronic fund transfers ” under federal law, the CFPB told us via email.
We were directed toward a FAQ that explains that “an unauthorized EFT includes a transfer initiated by a person who obtained the access device from the consumer through fraud or robbery.”
Another form of unauthorized EFT is “when a consumer is fraudulently induced into sharing account access information with a third party, and a third party uses that information to make an EFT from the consumers account.”
Furthermore, the FAQ states, banks may NOT “consider a consumer’s negligence when determining liability for unauthorized electronic funds transfers.”
Now, the banks are not immediately liable for covering the victims’ losses. But they cannot refuse to consider doing so outright. Instead, they are obligated to open an investigation.
However, says the FAQ, “if a consumer has provided timely notice of an error … and the financial institution determines that the error was an unauthorized electronic fund transfer , the liability protections Regulation E, § 1005.6, would apply.”

Money Transfers Made Easy Through Zelle
Zelle has made money transferring money simple, fast, and easy, whether youre using the Zelle app or your banks native app. Either way, the payments are instantaneous, and all you need to send money to your second Zelle account is the registered phone number or email. Of course, that information is different than the info on your main Zelle accountit has to be.
Regardless of whether youre using the Zelle app or your banking app, you need both Zelle accounts set up correctly. That process may take a while, especially if you need to open another bank account, email, and phone number. However, once you have everything you need to open that second Zelle account, the rest is relatively simple.
What You Cant Do
Before adding a second Zelle account, which you may have already decided not to do, here are all the things that Zelle doesnt allow. First, as previously mentioned, you cannot connect the same bank account to two Zelle accounts. Regardless, you also cannot have more than one bank account attached to one Zelle accountat least for now.
The above stipulations are somewhat inconvenient, as you may want to use different bank accounts for your money transactions. Zelle claims that this option may become available at some point, so stay tuned.
On another note, the Zelle app allows you to send and receive money using the app alone.
However, if you want to send money to a contact who doesnt have a Zelle account set up, you wont be able to do it. Luckily, your bank probably supports Zelle, so you might still be able to send the money through your banking app.
