How To Receive Money From Zelle

How to Use Zelle (Send and Receive Money Fast)

To receive money from Zelle, you simply need a Zelle account. If you already have an account through your bank or credit union, theres nothing more you need to do. Any payment sent to you using Zelle will automatically be deposited into your linked bank account.

If you dont already have a Zelle account or your financial institution doesnt offer Zelle, you can download the app and sign up for an account. Receiving your first payment could take up to three days. Future payments, however, should arrive in your bank account within minutes.

Are There Limits To The Amount Of Money I Can Send And Receive

There are no limits to the amount of money you can receive.

The limits on how much money you can send depend on the type of account youre using:

  • From personal Chase checking accounts, you can send up to $2,000 in a single transaction, up to $2,000 a day and $16,000 in a calendar month.
  • From Chase Private Client or Private Banking client accounts, you can send up to $5,000 in a single transaction, up to $5,000 a day and $40,000 in a calendar month.
  • From Chase business checking accounts, you can send up to $5,000 in a single transaction, up to $5,000 a day and $40,000 in a calendar month.

Keep in mind: These transfer limits are for your combined accounts and may be subject to change.

Participating Zelle® member banks and out-of-network banks set the limits on transfers sent to or received from Chase accounts.

Can I Use Zelle For Business

Zelle now supports business and personal transactions. You and your customer will need access to Zelle, which shouldnt be a problem since most major US banks already use the Zelle network. Before getting started, you should set up Zelle For Business using your business banking account, business credit card, and an email address and phone number that are different from your personal ones.

While personal transactions are free using Zelle, business transactions may have fees imposed by one or both banks involved in the transfer of funds. Youll want to confirm your banks policies on using Zelle for business, as not every bank in the Zelle network supports this use. Also, banks supporting Zelle for business transactions will usually have maximum transfer limits and possibly transaction fees.

Here are the main things to consider when using Zelle for business purposes:

Pros

  • Only available in the US
  • Only supports transactions in US dollars
  • Transaction fees may apply
  • Usually subject to maximum transfer limits

How To Cancel A Zelle Payment

The only way to cancel a Zelle payment is if the recipient hasnt yet enrolled in Zelle. If the recipient is already a Zelle user, the payment goes directly into their bank account and cant be canceled.

If a payment is eligible for cancellation, log into Zelle through the app or your banks website. Then, navigate to your account activity page. Select the payment you want to cancel and select Cancel this payment.

Debit Cards That Are Eligible

  • Visa® or MasterCard® debit card tied to a bank account in the U.S.
  • Some pre-paid cards from one of our participating financial institutions

Debit cards that are not eligible to enroll with the Zelle® app

  • Business debit cards
  • Cards linked to international accounts
  • Gift cards or pre-paid cards from a bank or credit union that do not offer Zelle® to their customers.
  • Debit cards linked to accounts based in a U.S. Territory. U.S. Territories include American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

When enrolling in the Zelle®app:

  • The information you are entering for this card must match the information that your bank or credit union has on file.

If you believe there is an error with this information, please contact the customer service phone number on the back of your card to have them verify this information for you.

Still getting an error?

It may be that your card is not currently capable of receiving money. This is called fast funds enabled. You can verify if your card is fast funds enabled by reaching out to the support number on the back of the card.

*Typically, when sending and receiving money with Zelle®, if the recipient is already enrolled, the money will be available in minutes. Some debit cards are not able to receive money in minutes. Those debit cards cannot be used with Zelle®.

Ways To Use Zelle For Business

Zelle For Business is quick and convenient for a variety of business use cases. While nearly any business can incorporate Zelle as part of its payments strategy, it works best for the following types of businesses:

  • Freelancers or independent contractors
  • Service industries
  • Home contractors
  • B2B payments to contractors or vendors
  • Nonprofits
  • Businesses that only occasionally accept non-cash payments

In general, Zelle is a great option for businesses that need to accept payments in the field, but dont want to bother with relying on a bulky wireless credit card terminal or other types of mobile processing systems. Its also a great alternate payment method for any business that relies on invoices to get paid. Note that Zelle wont work at all for international transactions and will be very unwieldy for any high-volume business that processes a large number of transactions daily.

Connecting Zelle To Your Bank Account

While most banks and credit unions in the US offer Zelle enrollment as part of their services, thats still not all of them.

Thats why before getting started, check if your bank supports Zelle directly. If the answer is yes, then the next step is to download the Zelle app from the App Store or Play Store. The registration is simple enough.

All you need to do is provide your email address, phone number, and debit card information.

Important note: The phone number and debit card must be US-based as Zelle is a US-only service that doesnt support international bank accounts or phone numbers.

When youve registered your email and other information with Zelle, the next step is to go to your online banking app. If you dont use one, you can access online banking on your browser too. For example, lets say that you have a bank account at Wells Fargo bank. Here are the steps youd need to follow:

  • Sign in to your Wells Fargo online banking and select Transfer & Pay.
  • Then choose the option Send Money with Zelle. Youll see a welcome note too.
  • You need to read and accept the Terms and Conditions.
  • Finally, enter your email, phone number, and bank account number.
  • Youll also receive a confirmation email or a verification code by text, so make sure that you confirm your account so you can proceed to use it.

Zelle And Your Bank: Same Username And Password

Since Zelle is a joint venture of many US banks, it offers several enrolment perks. Your bank might allow you to connect your bank account and Zelle with the same username and password for your online banking.

That can be quite practical and expedient. But as its the case with all participating banks and Zelle, not all of the rules are identical. So, this is another thing that youd want to check with your bank.

However, youll know that your bank provides this feature if youre redirected to your banks site when registering with Zelle.

At the point when you need to enter a username and password, thats when this option will be prompted. Once youve entered the information, youll return to the Zelle app.

Important note: Even though youll use the same password when connecting Zelle and your bank account, youll need to create a different password for your Zelle app and use it from then on.

    Changing Your Bank Account

Why so many people are falling for Zelle scams, and how to protect yourself

If you are already using the Zelle app and its connected to your bank account, then youre probably quite familiar with how the Zelle app works. Unfortunately, Zelle still doesnt support having multiple bank accounts connected to one Zelle account. But what you can do is change the bank account thats connected to Zelle. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Open your Zelle app.
  • After you do this, youll be asked to unlink your current account and add your new one. One of the things you should keep in mind while doing this is that youll lose all Zelle transaction history with your previous bank account.

NOTE: If you want to connect two bank accounts to Zelle, you will have to open another Zelle account. To do that, you will need to provide another email address and phone number to register a second account.

    Mobile Phone Number Already Enrolled

Money sent with Zelle® will be sent to the account enrolled with the email or U.S. mobile number used to send the money. You will not be able to enroll by linking the same U.S. mobile number or email address to multiple accounts with Zelle®.

“Your mobile number is already enrolled”

    • You have an active Zelle® profile enrolled to your U.S. mobile number with a current or previous participating bank or credit union.
    • Contact your participating bank or credit union support team to request they deactivate the mobile number.
    • U.S. Mobile numbers cannot be enrolled with more than one Zelle® profile.

To receive money to more than one account you will need to enroll a unique U.S. mobile number or email address per account. At least one or more accounts must be with a participating financial institution. Zelle® does not support sending or receiving money between non-participant financial institutions.

When Will Zelle Be Coming To Canada

Zelle probably wont be coming to Canada anytime soon because Canadians have the transfer service, which was created by Interac, which is a cooperative with major Canadian financial institutions.

Canadian fintech company Wealthsimple has also recently launched its own money transfer platform for Canadians, so its going to be challenging for a competitor like Zelle to gain a footing in the Canadian market.

Combined with Canadian banking laws and smaller market sizes, entering the Canadian market may not be very appealing for Zelle.

How Do I Split A Charge From My Credit Card Or Checking Account Activity

To split a charge in the app, go to your credit card or checking account activity, swipe left on a charge until the “Split” button appears and choose “Split.” This will take you into the Request and Split money flow within Zelle® and from there you can choose or add contacts youd like to split the charge with.

If youre not enrolled in Zelle® and you have an eligible checking account, splitting a charge will take you to Zelle® enrollment.

If you dont see the “Split” button when you swipe left, you might have hidden your checking accounts or you may not have an eligible checking account.

When someone sends money to your enrolled email address or U.S. mobile number, Zelle® looks up the email address or mobile number in its “directory” and notifies Western States Bank of the incoming payment. Western States Bank then directs the payment into your bank account, all while keeping your sensitive account details private.
