Eip Card Stimulus Check: Can I Transfer It To My Bank Account Everything You Need To Know
It’s possible your $1,400 stimulus check could show up in your mailbox in the form of a prepaid debit card, or EIP card. And yes, it’s legitimate.
We now know a little more about those of the third stimulus checks that are arriving as an EIP card.
If your direct deposit information isn’t on file with the IRS, don’t expect to receive your third stimulus check in your bank account. Yesterday, March 24, was the last day for direct deposits to be made, the IRS announced — the agency disbursed 37 million more payments this week. If you’re eligible for the third check and haven’t received a payment yet, you should expect either a paper check or an Economic Impact Payment debit card in the mail.
Don’t be alarmed — the EIP prepaid debit card was also used as a payment method for the first and second stimulus checks last year. If you’ve already received your EIP card in the mail and wondering what it is, read on for what it should look like, how to use it and what to do if you accidentally lose it.
Also, if you’re still missing your stimulus money or think there’s a problem with your payment, we can help. Additionally, if you’re curious to know how much of the $1,400 you’ll actually get or wondering if you should be looking for an EIP card or a paper check, we have answers. Also, here’s what to know about stimulus checks and SSI and SSDI and older adults, how your taxes could affect your total and if a fourth stimulus check could happen.
My Stimulus Payment Went To The Tax Service I Used Last Year What Should I Do
Unfortunately, we do not have access to the account information used by the IRS for stimulus payments. The IRS has updated their website with information on this situation in the Questions and Answers section. There is also a link to Get My Payment which will allow you to access your specific information. You can access that and other information about the Economic Impact Payments at IRS.gov/coronavirus.
Whos Eligible For A Third Economic Impact Payment
- Individual tax filers with adjusted gross income up to $75,000 and head-of-household filers with adjusted gross income up to $112,500 will receive the full payment of $1,400, plus $1,400 for each eligible dependent.
- For filers with incomes above the $75,000/$112,500/$150,000 thresholds, payments are reduced at a much sharper rate than with the first and second stimulus payments. Payments decrease to zero for single filers at $80,000, for heads of household at $120,000 and for married couples at $160,000.
- Social Security recipients and railroad retirees who are otherwise not required to file a tax return are also eligible and will not be required to file a return.
Individual filers with income exceeding $80,000, head of household filers exceeding $120,000 and joint filers exceeding $160,000 are not eligible.
Visit the Economic Impact Payments page at IRS.gov for more information about eligibility.

‘payment Status Not Available’
Some people may receive the message payment status not available when checking the IRS site.
“If you get this message, either we have not yet processed your payment, or you are not eligible for a payment,” the IRS said.
If that happens, filers should check to make sure they meet the requirements for the money. Filers must have a Social Security number that is valid for employment and are a U.S. citizen or a U.S. resident alien.
The payments amount to $1,400 for a single person or $2,800 for a married couple filing jointly, plus an additional $1,400 for each dependent child. Individuals earning up to $75,000 get the full payments, as do married couples with incomes up to $150,000. Payments decline for incomes above those thresholds, phasing out above $80,000 for individuals and $160,000 for married couples.
What If I Dont Have An Address
Shelters and other service providers, such as health care clinics and drop-in day centers, may allow you to use their address for tax purposes. Other agencies that offer homeless prevention services like a Community Action Agency or Salvation Army are also options. If you are not staying in a shelter or cannot find a service provider nearby, you can also use a trusted relatives or friends address. The IRS will deliver checks to P.O. boxes.

What If I Closed The Bank Account The Irs Has On File
The IRS didnt release the new feature until it had already started sending payments via direct deposit. If you filed a 2018 or 2019 return and have since closed the bank account you provided?
Theres still nothing you can do to update your payment information with the IRS, and that means youll wait longer for your coronavirus checks.
The IRS has most likely processed your payment already. When you provide your information to track your check, chances are that it will show that your payment is being deposited to your old account.
Your old bank will reject the payment, which means it goes back to the IRS. The IRS will put you in line to receive a paper check.
Within 15 days, you should receive a letter in the mail that explains what to do if you didnt receive a payment. The IRS will send the letter to your last known address. And if thats changed since you filed your 2019 return? As of this writing, there doesnt appear to be any way to update that either.
The only guidance the IRS offers under the Update your bank account or mailing address is this:
- 2019 Filers: We will send your payment using the information you provided with your 2019 tax return. You will not be able to change it.
- 2018 Filers: If you need to change your account information or mailing address, file your 2019 taxes electronically as soon as possible. That is the only way to let us know your new information.
I Already Filed My Tax Return And Still Havent Gotten My Payment What Can I Do
If you filed a 2019 tax return and it wasnt processed in time to issue your first stimulus check by December 31, 2020, you can claim your first stimulus check as the Recovery Rebate Tax Credit on your 2020 tax return or use GetCTC.org if you dont have a filing requirement.
If you filed your 2020 tax return, the IRS may still be processing your return. The fastest way to receive the payment is through direct deposit. Your first stimulus check, which you claim as the Recovery Rebate Credit, will be sent as part of your tax refund. You can check the status of your tax refund using the IRS tool Wheres My Refund.
Because of COVID-19, it is taking more than 21 days for the IRS to issue refunds for certain mailed and e-filed 2020 tax returns that require review.
Some Can’t Update Banking Information
Some people have run into issues updating their bank account information with the IRS.
Ryan Deckard, who lives in Pittsburgh, received the first payment, but he never got a second one after the Get my Payment tool showed an account that was no longer active for him.
When tax season kicked off this year, he filed his 2020 return with TurboTax on the first day Feb. 12 to make sure his bank account information was updated with the IRS. He claimed the Recovery Rebate Credit to get his second payment.
When he went online to check the status of his third relief check, his old account information still showed up on the agencys website.
Ive been in the throes of a meltdown. Im tired of going to bed hungry, said Deckard, 33, an unemployed author.
Why cant I change my banking information? The government shouldnt be blindly sending money to closed bank accounts, Deckard said. It seems like the people who need the money most cant get it.

Irs Get My Payment Tool
Most people don’t need to do anything to receive their stimulus checks, which pay out up to $1,200 per adult, and $500 per child under age 17. According to the IRS, 130 million stimulus payments were sent out through the program’s first four weeks, and somewhere between 150 million to 170 million payments will be distributed overall. The payment amounts are based on your adjusted gross income, as calculated in your most recent tax return, and the IRS is paying most checks via direct deposit provided that information is already on file.
Yet in this particularly trying economic climate, where millions have lost their jobs, many people were waiting for the IRS to offer a service letting them track their stimulus checks, similar to the tool allowing you to track your tax refund. Some taxpayers are also unsure how or when they will receive their $1,200 checks, or they seek to provide the IRS with updated direct deposit information so that they can get their checks as soon as possible. The Get My Payment application is supposed to address all of these needs.
How Can You Change Direct Deposit Information
The IRS has created an online Get My Payment tool where direct deposit bank information can be provided. The tool will inform you the expected date of direct deposit in your bank account. You can also use the Get My Payment tool to track the status of your stimulus payment. However, the Get My Payment tool doesnt always work, and your request may result in a Payment Status Not Available message.
You cant change the bank account information in the Get My Payment tool if the IRS already has your bank information on file. This is mainly to protect against possible fraud. You cant change the mode of delivery if the IRS has scheduled it for payment.

When Will I Get My Eip Card
The IRS has already sent out over 90 million third stimulus checks via direct deposit. The IRS and Treasury announced Wednesday they sent 37 million more payments this week, with many coming as a paper check or EIP card. If you didn’t receive a direct deposit by March 24, expect your payment to arrive by mail “in the coming weeks.”
Here’s more about the timeline for getting your check, and how to track your payment. The IRS tool will also tell you how your money will arrive. Here’s how you can track your EIP card in the mail with a free USPS service.
According To The American Bankers Association The Economic Relief Package Includes :
- Second round of stimulus checks in the amount of $600 per adult and dependent children, subject to income limits
- $300 a week for enhanced unemployment insurance benefits
- Jobless workers would receive their regular state unemployment aid, plus $300 until March 14, 2021.

How To Get Your Stimulus Check Quickly
Millions of Americans will soon receive another round of stimulus checks, up to $1,400 per adult and $1,400 for dependents, depending on adjusted gross incomes reported on 2020 federal tax returns, if filed, or 2019 returns. The Internal Revenue Service started issuing payments as soon as the latest stimulus plan was passed, with a third batch of payments expected to be released on March 24, 2021. For many Americans this money will help in a time of severe economic uncertainty because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Youll want to make sure you get your stimulus payment as promptly as possible. As with previous stimulus payments, the IRS will be responsible for issuing payments. Here are a few tips to ensure the IRS gets your stimulus money to you without delay when its available.
Whats Different About This Third Stimulus Payment Compared To The Previous Two
Payments to those earning more than the defined threshold amounts are phased out at a more aggressive rate, resulting in a lower eligibility cutoff. As a result, many Americans who qualified for the first and second stimulus checks wont be eligible for this round.
However, payments for qualifying dependents in the third stimulus will match the payment amounts sent to qualifying taxpayers themselves. For many people, this will mean a larger supplemental payment than in previous stimulus distributions. And, unlike the first and second stimulus programs, the third stimulus doesnt exclude dependents over 18 years of age. This means that millions of college students, elderly and disabled dependents of eligible tax filers will qualify for the supplemental payments.

How Long Does It Take To Update Bank Account With The Irs
After submitting your new bank account information, the new bank account will be on the IRS database immediately. However, if your refund was sent to the previous account, youll receive it in that account. But, if the account is closed, the funds will be returned back to the IRS, and thats when you may need to contact the agency to ask them to forward back the funds to the updated bank account.
Because receiving your refund or other funds can take time, we highly suggest updating your bank account information with the IRS prior to filing your federal income tax return. If sudden events make you change your bank account after filing your federal income tax return, contact the IRS via phone and it will be sorted out even if the refund is already sent.

Monthly payments from the expanded child tax credit will begin on July 15, the IRS said.

Receiving A Direct Deposit
What is a direct deposit? Direct deposit is an easy way to have money deposited directly into your checking or savings account without waiting for a check to arrive in the mail. Simply provide the IRS your account and routing number by filing a tax return or using the web-based portal. The money will move directly into your account once it is sent.
Need help finding your account or routing number?Your account and routing number on the bottom left-hand corner of a personal check. The routing number is the first set of numbers and is typically nine digits. The next set of numbers just to the right of the routing number is your account number.
What if I need to update the account information I provided when I filed taxes? Please visit IRS.gov/coronavirus for guidance on how to set up or change your direct deposit information.
How do I know the payment arrived? You will get a paper notice in the mail from the IRS no later than a few weeks after your payment has been sent. The notice will contain information about where the payment was sent and in what form it was made. If you cannot locate the payment and have not received a paper notice, then check the web-based portal for the status of your payment as it may still be processing.
You can also check to see if the money has arrived by signing into online or mobile banking and checking your transaction history.
