You can raise a dispute for misrepresented goods or services in the following situations:

Free trials

An online transaction where you purchased goods or digital goods for a trial period, introductory offer or one-off purchase, and were charged further amounts without warning. If you were not told that you would incur further costs, for example being entered into a subscription after your trial period, you can raise a dispute.

  • If you notice any unidentified or unauthorized transaction on your credit / debit card, you may call the Banks Contact Centre for further information on the transaction. If you are still not convinced, you may request to dispute the transaction.
  • Any transaction that you disagree with, must be communicated to the Bank within 20 days of the Account Statement generated date. Any transaction notified to you by the Bank via SMS alert is deemed as a transaction acknowledged by you.
  • Resolving your dispute may involve a charge-back with the respective merchant and the Acquiring Institute. Such charge-back is bound by the rules and time frames set by VISA/LankaPay network organization.
  • If you agree to have performed the transaction, but you require the transaction to be cancelled, or believe that a credit is due to you from the merchant, obtain all supporting documents that would support your dispute case. Always attempt to directly resolve the transaction dispute with the merchant you transacted with, prior to complaining the same to the Bank.
  • Please be aware on the charge-back cutover days, which will be effected when resolving your concerns with the acquiring institutions.

What Happens Once A Dispute Is Raised

In most cases youll need to try to solve the problem by contacting the retailer first. However, if youve not been able to do so and have raised a dispute with us, this is what happens next:

The retailer and their bank can respond with comments and evidence of their own. Once we raise your dispute with the retailer, their investigation can take up to 45 days. We may contact you at a later date and ask for more information to continue with your dispute. This could be:

  • evidence of your attempts to cancel the transaction or return the goods
  • a receipt or invoice
  • the retailer’s terms and conditions
  • evidence of the retailers rejection of your dispute

Most disputes will be resolved within 3 months of the date we raise them with the retailer. Were getting a lot of queries at the moment, so your dispute may take longer to resolve, but were working hard to try to keep within our normal timescales.

What Transactions Can Be Disputed

When the outcome of a transaction was not as expected, such as when a merchant charges you the wrong amount or it is a duplicate transaction, you may be able to file a dispute.

Fraudulent transactions can also be disputed. A fraudulent transaction is one that you did not participate in. This can occur if your account is compromised, or your Cash Card has been lost or stolen. Its a great idea to regularly review your transactions so that you can quickly identify if anything is out of the ordinary. What To Do If The Disputed Charge Is Reapplied To Your Account

We understand that having a disputed charge reapplied to your account isnât the outcome you were hoping for. Capital One provides you a temporary credit for the original charge while we investigate your dispute. How Do I File A Dispute

If youve already contacted the merchant and are unable to resolve a transaction, you may be able to file a dispute. To file a dispute for a Cash Card transaction, you will need to select the transaction in Cash App. To do so:
