Chase Statements From Closed Accounts
Hello Fico fam, please forgive me if I do this wrong – it’s my first post! I did search the forums for this topic before posting but have not seen anything that relates.
I have two Chase accounts, both are closed but still hold balances. They were involved in a DMP that is no longer active but I still make payments. However, since the accounts are closed, I no longer have access to the online portals. I get an email that says my statement is ready, but am unable to view it or access it. This is the first month since the DMP closed, so I’m assuming they’ll send me a paper copy. Has anyone gone through this before? Is there a way to get the statement quicker? I hate waiting for snail mail if I don’t have to.
Kind of a first world problem I guess but any insight is appreciated!

How To Obtain Statements From A Closed Bank Account
You may be able to access the records of an old account, but it depends on the type of account you held, when you closed it down and your previous bank’s data retention policies.
Although you’ll have to pay a fee, you can request all the data a financial institution holds about you under the Data Protection Act. Doing so can often work out cheaper than asking your old bank for copy statements.
Phone your old bank’s customer service department. You’ll need your closed account’s sort code and account number. You may be able to discuss your old account by giving your name and address and answering a few security questions. If the call centre worker can’t access your old account details, ask for an address you can send a Data Protection Act subject access request to and find out how much this will cost to process.
Send a subject access request to your old bank requesting the old statements you need. Include your name and address, the appropriate account numbers relating to your closed account and the statement dates you require. Make sure you ask for all the statements you need. If you leave some out and have to put in a second request, you’ll have to pay another fee. You can find a template subject access request letter on the Information Commissioner’s Office website .

Alternatives To Bank Statements
It can also be a good idea to consider exactly what documents you need. Since it can take money and time to get copies of old bank statements, you may wish to limit the months you want to request to those you absolutely need for your purposes, or you may want to find other documentation of transactions you’ve made. For instance, you may already have receipts for payments you made or documentation of money you’ve received, such as pay stubs or deposit slips.

What Is The Difference Between My Account Activity And A Wells Fargo Online Statement
Both your Account Activity screen and your Wells Fargo Online statements show your transaction history. Here are the key differences:
- The Account Activity screen shows all of your recent and pending transactions for the past 60-90 days.
- Wells Fargo Online statements are electronic versions of the monthly paper statements that you receive by mail. They include transactions from a set period of time and do not include any pending transactions.
For example: Your credit card statement shows the transactions you made before the statement closing date and the current amount owed. Your credit card Account Activity screen shows the past 60 days of activity, including pending transactions and transactions that occurred after the statement closing date.

What Happens When You Close An Account
When you close an account, it’s no longer available for new transactions, but you’re still required to pay off any balance outstanding by paying at least the minimum owed each month by the due date.
After the account is closed, the account status on your credit report gets updated to show that the account has been closed. For accounts closed with a balance, the creditor continues to update account details with the credit bureaus each month. How Can I Avoid Having My Bank Close My Account
The best way to avoid having your account closed is to avoid a negative balance. Even if your account offers overdraft services, you will be paying a lot in overdraft fees, and you may become trapped in an overdraft cycle where more and more of your paycheck goes towards the overdraft fees.
Keeping a running balance of your account, and spending only the money that you have in the account will protect you from finding yourself in this situation.
If you have started an overdraft cycle, you will need to break it. You can do that by cutting back on your spending and possibly speaking with your bank about a schedule to pay back the fees so you can still afford groceries and to pay your rent during the week. You may need to consider selling something or taking on extra work in order to recover from being overdrawn. You need to be proactive until you fix the situation.
If you have not already, you should set up a bare-bones budget and start putting all of your extra money into catching up with the bank and other bills. This may mean that you limit spending on luxuries and cancel things like your cable subscription and gym memberships.
Once you are on a tight budget, you should be able to catch up on your bills and begin to plan for future expenses so that you do not overdraw your account.
