Link Bank Accounts To Chart Of Accounts
Upon returning to QuickBooks, you are provided a list of accounts you have with that bank:
Select bank account and link to Chart of Accounts.
Select all of the bank accounts you would like to link to QuickBooks Online. After you click on an account, a drop-down box will list the bank accounts included in your Chart of Accounts. If your checking account is already included in your Chart of Accounts, select it. Pauls Plumbing only has one checking account with Chase, and well link it to the account titled Company Checking Account that is already included in the Chart of Accounts.
Creating a New Checking Account in the Chart of Accounts
If your Chart of Accounts doesnt include the checking account you are connecting, click Add new:

The Account Type must be Bank, and the Detail Type must be Checking. You must name the account, and I recommend the name of the bank plus Checking Account. If you have more than one checking account with the same bank, you might also include the last four digits of the account number. Import As The Iif Format
The IIF format is considered a “low level” or “system” format and QuickBooks imports it right into its database, so you have to be precise with the data you provide. Typos and mismatches will result in new vendor records and accounts created. Always do a backup for the QuickBooks company file before any IIF import. Putting aside the scary part, this is a great format widely used and you can import data quickly. If you just figuring out QuickBooks, start with the QBO format .
CSV files must have exact vendor names and category account names matching account names in QuickBooks. All QuickBooks versions are supported as long as they import IIF files . For QuickBooks Enterprise the user must have exclusive access to import IIF files.

Directly connecting your bank account with QuickBooks has many benefits, among which ease of use is the most important one.; Once the integration is complete, you can download transactions directly into QuickBooks. To begin, Ill start by clicking Banking at the top of my screen and then click Online Banking Setup.
On the next screen, we need to give QuickBooks some instruction on how to perform the synchronization between your bank and your QuickBooks file. The two options are Web Connect and Direct Connect. The Direct Connect option allows a more persistent connection that can save time. Web Connect will require a log-in through your bank accounts website each time you want to download the transactions. For this example, were going to use Web Connect.
Now thats weve selected Web Connect, the screen will prompt us by saying we need to download the transactions from our bank. Replacing the Next button will be a button labeled Website, and QuickBooks will open the web page where we download the transactions.
