How To Start Using Zelle

The biggest problem with Zelle is that not too many banks support it yet. However, if your bank does support it, its easy for you. Youll need to enable Zelle using your regular banking app on your smartphone.

Every bank has a different app, so we cant give you clear instructions with laid out steps. In general, you need to open your designated mobile banking app and log into your bank account. Pass the 2FA authentication, and find the Transfers or a similarly named section of the app.

This section may also be called Send Money. There you can sign up for Zelle, and it is pretty standard account creation. You will need to give Zelle your phone number and email address. Be sure to read through the TOS, and if you are OK with them, enter the verification code sent the Zelle sent you to confirm your contact info.

The whole process is fairly simple, and some banks even allow you to get Zelle using your computer, in case you dont use a smartphone.

If you cant manage to find your way around this, you should Google your banks name and Zelle sign up. In case your bank doesnt have native Zelle support, you can always download the Zelle app for iOS and Android devices using these official links. Note that you can only tie your debit card to the standalone Zelle app.

Zelle And Your Bank: Same Username And Password

Zelle Is Your New Friend

Since Zelle is a joint venture of many US banks, it offers several enrolment perks. Your bank might allow you to connect your bank account and Zelle with the same username and password for your online banking.

That can be quite practical and expedient. But as its the case with all participating banks and Zelle, not all of the rules are identical. So, this is another thing that youd want to check with your bank.

However, youll know that your bank provides this feature if youre redirected to your banks site when registering with Zelle.

At the point when you need to enter a username and password, thats when this option will be prompted. Once youve entered the information, youll return to the Zelle app.

Important note: Even though youll use the same password when connecting Zelle and your bank account, youll need to create a different password for your Zelle app and use it from then on.

What Should Zelle Be Used For

Using Zelle® in the Bank of America App

Zelle is a great way to send money to family, friends, and people that you are familiar with such as your personal trainer, babysitter or a neighbor.

If you don’t know the person, or aren’t sure you will get what you paid for , we recommend you do not use Zelle for these types of transactions. While theyre widely used nowadays, mobile payment apps are still somewhat a novelty. And theres still an aura of suspicion around them.

When youre connecting your bank account to Zelle for the first time, you might be curious to know how safe your banking info will be. The app does have safety protocols and ensures that the payments are made securely.

How to use Zelle, the payment app that

If youre like me, you want to manage your finances as simply as possible, with minimum room for human error. To me, this includes setting up auto pay on every new credit card I open.

Over the years, Ive found Bank of Americas auto pay set up flow to be one of the worst out there. It took me much longer than I care to admit to finally set up auto pay on these cards, despite that fact that my oldest credit line and my checking account is through Bank of America.

So, for all the people out there who find Bank of Americas auto pay process just as counterintuitive as I did, heres a step-by-step walk-through of how to stop paying your credit card bills manually and make sure that you never miss a payment.

Once youre logged into your account, navigate over to the Payment Center, under the Bill Pay tab at the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

On this page, youll see a list of your Bank of America credit cards, along with any other payments you might have set up. A semi-recent update to this page is that it will be obvious which accounts have auto pay set up, and which dont. Ive already set up auto pay for my most used card, but my other card, highlighted below in red, doesnt have the green ON indicator.

If youve never set up an eBill, youll have to go through an extra click, but its fairly straight-foward. The below screenshot is from when I set up eBills last year, so it may look a little different for you.
