    If you recently received an Economic Impact Payment prepaid debit card from the government in the mail, this is money for you under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act.

    Do not throw this card away. You will need this card to access your Economic Impact Payment. You must first activate your card by phone before you can use it. Once activated, your money is safe and secure on the card. Be sure to immediately report if your card is lost or stolen.

    Here are some common questions and tips to help you access your money and use your card, including how to do so with limited fees. While most transactions are free, small fees can add up, so know how you can make the most of your money.

    What Does Someone Do If Their Prepaid Debit Card Was Lost Or Destroyed

    Individuals who have lost or destroyed their EIP Card may request a free replacement through MetaBank® Customer Service. The standard fee of $7.50 will be waived for the first reissuance of any EIP Card. Any initial fee charged to a customer from an earlier date will be reversed. Individuals don’t need to know their card number to request a replacement. They may also request a replacement by calling and choosing option 2 from the main menu.

    The IRS will mail a letter about the Economic Impact Payment to the individual’s address of record within 15 days after the payment is made. Watch out for websites and social media attempts that request money or personal information and for schemes tied to Economic Impact Payments.

    The IRS encourages people to share this information with family and friends.

    Transfer Funds To Your Own Bank Account

    It is free to transfer the funds in the EIP card to an existing bank account.

    You will need to:

  • Activate your card, call 1–240-8100.
  • Register an account for online or mobile app access, visit or download the free Money Network Mobile App .
  • Having your bank account routing number and account number ready.
  • Once youre set up, you can log into your account online or through the mobile app to transfer funds to your bank account.

    The ACH transfer limit is $2,500 per day or $5,000 per month.

    For married couples with dependents, you may not be able to transfer all the money from the EIP card in one day.

    IRS Economic Impact Payments on Your Tax Account

    A: You can use the card at an ATM, but to avoid fees, youll have to find a machine thats in what MetaBank calls in-network. Its similar to how you can avoid an ATM fee by using one operated by your own financial institution. If you use a foreign or out-of-network machine, you may be charged two fees, one by MetaBank and one by the operator of the ATM.

    How Do I Use My Card To Get Cash Without Paying A Fee

    There are several ways to get cash from your card without paying a fee.

    • Use one of the In-Network AllPoint brand ATMs to withdraw cash. Use the ATM locator at or Money Network® Mobile App to locate one near you. Limits may apply to the amount of cash you are able to withdraw at ATMs.
    • Get cash-back at participating merchants, like grocery and convenience stores. If the merchant allows cash-back during a purchase, select Debit on the keypad, enter your 4-digit PIN, select Yes to get cash-back, and then enter the amount of cash you would like. Check the merchants policies on amount limits.

    Dont Use Your Stimulus Debit Card At The Wrong Atm

    You can get cash from your stimulus debit card at any ATM, up to $1,000 per day . However, its important that you use the right ATM so it doesnt cost you extra.

    When you use your stimulus debit card at an ATM within the AllPoint network, you wont pay a fee at all. You can find a list of all the network ATMs on the EIP Card website.

    But if you use a machine outside of that network, youre at risk of paying not just one, but two separate fees. First, Metabank, which issues the card on behalf of the Treasury Department, will charge you a $2 fee each time you withdraw cash on a non-network ATM .

    And second, the owner of the ATM itself may charge you a fee, which can range from 99 cents to several dollars, depending on the machine. Plus, if you happen to be outside the US, youll be charged an even higher $3 fee by Metabank to withdraw cash from an ATM, no matter what machine you use, plus any additional fee charged by the ATM operator.

    So if youre going to withdraw cash from your stimulus debit card using an ATM, youll want to make sure youre doing it only at a network ATM in the US.

    If your first or second stimulus check never arrived, you’ll have to claim it as a Recovery Rebate Credit when you file your 2020 tax return, now through the May 17 deadline. You’ll have to file your taxes to claim any missing stimulus money, even if you’re part of the group of nonfilers who typically don’t have to do so. In some cases — like if you received a confirmation letter from the IRS that it sent your money, but your EIP card never arrived — you may have to report the missing funds or any errors to the IRS.

    Request A Money Network Check

    Cardholders can request checks with amounts deducted from your EIP card balance.

    To request checks, you must call customer service at 1-240-8100.

    For each check to be written, you have to call the number on the back of your card and go through an automated phone call to receive an issuer number and transaction number to activate the check and have the check amount deducted immediately from your EIP card balance.
