Axos Bank Review Vs Lendingclub Review
If you’re looking for a high APY on your savings, then Axos is the way to go. But if you’re looking for a rewards checking account, then your choice will come down to which is the best fit.
The LendingClub Rewards Checking Account is a good rewards account if you can maintain a $2,500 balance you’ll need $2,500 to qualify for the 1.25% APY and to earn cash back. If you can keep that much in your account, then you’ll earn interest and 1% to 1.5% cash back on an unlimited amount in purchases, which can be a good deal. If you can’t keep a $2,500 balance, then you’re better off going with Axos.
Banking with LendingClub can be a good way to get the best of both worlds with your checking account: interest and cash back. But if you care more about earning interest, then you might prefer Axos, which is currently offering a significantly higher interest rate. Axos also compounds interest daily, but LendingClub only compounds it monthly.

The bottom line:
Axos Bank, formerly called Bank of Internet USA, is an online bank that does away with many fees and offers something that’s somewhat rare: rewards checking. As an online-only bank, Axos doesnt have in-person customer service options, though it does provide a 24/7 phone line, automated online chat, secure online messaging and Twitter. If in-person customer service isnt important to you, consider giving Axos Bank a closer look.
Best for: Customers who want high-yield savings and checking accounts, are comfortable with online-only customer service and would benefit from unlimited ATM fee reimbursements.
Penalty for outsize CFPB complaints: NerdWallet deducted 0.5 star from Axos overall rating due to the volume of complaints on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau database relative to its asset size. For more information about this penalty, see our methodology page.
- Excellent checking rates and rewards.
- No monthly fees for checking or savings.
- Domestic ATM fee reimbursements.
- CD rates are low for an online bank.

Reasons We Don’t Like Axos Bank
Only 3 physical branches. If you prefer to bank in person at a brick-and-mortar location, you don’t have many options with Axos Bank. They only have branches in San Diego, CA, Columbus, OH, and Las Vegas, NV.
For everyone else, your money is managed 100% electronically via online transfers, mobile deposits, or ATM withdrawals.
Not ideal for depositing cash. You can only deposit cash at an ATM that accepts cash deposits or via the Reload @ the Register program at retailers like 7-Eleven, CVS, Walmart, and more. Keep in mind that this costs $4.95 per deposit. If you need to make several cash deposits per month, this can really eat away at your funds.
Low CD rates for an online bank. Typically, online banks offer higher APYs. The lack of overhead allows banks to pass along the savings to its customers. While Axos has some of the highest rates available now for their savings accounts, their CD rates are quite low.
How Can I Save More Money With An Axos Bank Account
You can definitely save more money with an Axos Bank account due to its competitive interest rates and free accounts. Its interest rates grow your money at faster rates than many of its big bank competitors, especially because it compounds interest daily. You can keep those earnings with Axos, too, since you dont have to worry about paying or avoiding a monthly fee for any of its accounts.

Axos Bank Review: The Bottom Line
In summary, Axos Bank is arguably an excellent alternative to mainstream banks. First and foremost, you have access to a fully-fledged checking account that comes with no fees or annual charges.
In fact, with your Axos debit card, you get to make an unlimited amount of ATM withdrawals at no cost. Moreover, and perhaps most importantly, the Axos Bank Checking Rewards account comes with a highly competitive APY rate of 1.25%.
This is significantly higher than the vast majority of checking accounts in the market at present, so its well worth considering making the seamless switch.
On the other hand, the savings and CD accounts offered by Axos Bank are a bit non-descript. By this, we mean that the rates on offer are nothing to write home about. Notably, as the savings account pays just 1.30% APY, you would probably be better off sticking with the freedoms that the 1.25%-paying checking account offers.

In terms of public reviews, the general consensus is largely positive. However, one of the main concerns echoed by customers of Axos Bank is with respect to its checking account APY rates. If youve read our guide up to this point, then youll remember that we noted how there are some conditions that need to be met to retain the 1.25% APY interest rate.
However, some customers have complained about not receiving the rate because they fell short on the minimum debit card transaction requirement. Although this can of course be frustrating, Axos Bank are very clear on the terms.
