Chime Support Phone Calls
So many scammers are using robocalls these days that most people dont even pick up their phones to answer a call anymore. And, Im certainly one of them. If I dont see a number or name that I recognize, Im not picking it up as 9 times out of 10 its either a robocall or a scamming robocall, or a real person trying to scam me.
If someone is claiming theyre affiliated with Chime and they need to verify your account for whatever reason, DONT give them any details and simply hang up the line. Chime will never call you to ask for your personal information.
Instead, if you are worried, call the number on the back of the Chime card to talk to a Chime rep.

Details: Chime Features And Fees
Currently, Chime’s services consist of a checking accountâthe “Spending” Accountâthat’s connected to the Chime app as well as a Visa debit card, which is mailed to new customers. The company also offers an optional Savings Account, which earns 0.5% APY and can be managed alongside your Spending Account within the app.
Chime App Features
The debit card can be used normally for purchases and free ATM cash withdrawals, but Chime’s best feature is its mobile app. The Chime app lets you manage all your banking from a smartphone, whether you feel like going over your recent debit purchases, paying friends by Venmo, or making a mobile check deposit. Combined with Chime’s paperless statements, this effectively eliminates paperwork and signatures from your daily banking experience.
For skeptics of online banking, it’s important to note that Chime provides government-backed FDIC insurance on all of your deposits, just like any brick-and-mortar bank. It achieves this by partnering with The Bancorp Bank, an FDIC member institution that holds the money placed into Chime accounts on behalf of the app’s users.
What Does Chime Offer
Chime keeps its service options simple, with only two account choices available.
- Savings Account
- Spending Account
Chime offers only one savings optiona high-yield savings account. Chimes savings account comes with a savings rate of 0.50% APY, which is good but still lower than the best high-yield savings accounts on the market.
The savings account comes with two optional automatic savings programs, so customers can reach savings goals faster:
- Save When You Spend When enabled, every purchase you make with your Chime Visa debit card is rounded up to the nearest dollar. The rounded-up amount is transferred to your savings account.
- Save When I Get Paid Enrolled customers can automatically transfer a percentage of every direct deposit of $500 or more to their savings account.
Depositing cash into your Chime savings account is not a simple process. Customers can either transfer money from their Chime spending account or use the Save When I Get Paid feature.

Customers can use their debit card without paying a fee at more than 60,000 ATMs across the U.S. There are also no foreign transaction fees charged for using your Chime debit card internationally. Unfortunately, using your debit card at out-of-network ATMs can yield a charge per transaction. ATM withdrawals are limited to $500 per day.

Does Chime Offer Prepaid Debit Cards
Chime does not offer a prepaid debit card, however, Chime offers a full-featured deposit account that is a great alternative to prepaid cards. Your account can receive direct deposits and it supports pre-authorized withdrawals and interbank transfers through the Automated Clearing House Network. Deposits are FDIC insured to at least $250,000 through The Bancorp Bank or Stride Bank, N.A., Members FDIC.
Chimes Network Of Atms
Does it cost traditional banking institutions $5 or more to process the bits and bytes of digital information generated by an out-of-network ATM transaction? No, of course, it doesnt. Everyone intuitively knows this.
Consumers, for their part, have grown increasingly tired of what they perceive to be getting gouged every time they use an out-of-network ATM. So the founding partners decided to tackle this annoying issue head-on.
Chime has established partnerships that offer consumers fee-free access to more than 60,000 ATMs in stores they are likely to drive by or stop in every day through its relationship with its banking institutions. Chime-affiliated ATMs are located in stores such as Walgreens, CVS, and 7-Eleven. In addition, customers never have to wonder where the closest fee-free ATM is situated as the smartphone app includes an ATM locator.

How Does Chime Make Money
Chime makes money from the interchange fee charged on card transactions. Every time you use your Chime Visa® Debit Card or Credit Builder Secured Credit Card for purchases and paying bills, Visa processes the transaction and charges an interchange fee to merchants for the service. Chime receives a portion of this fee. This is how Chime can continue building new and better products that help members get the most from their money.

How Do Virtual Credit Cards Work
Virtual credit cards are not meant to replace a traditional credit card account. Rather, they are linked to your traditional account as a way to improve security and privacy while conducting financial transactions online.
Many virtual credit cards allow users to set a maximum spend or charge limit on the card to prevent the account from being overcharged. You can also limit a virtual credit card number for use at a single merchant, so that the card cant be used elsewhere if the merchant is breached.

I get these almost on a daily basis. Sometimes they look fake as hell, other times they even put a little more effort to make them look legit. They can even come from the same number that your bank has, which is just incredible.
The advice is the same dont share your details or click on links inside the messages, no matter how legit the message looks.

The bottom line:
Chime is an online-only financial technology company that partners with two banks to offer checking and savings accounts. It doesnât work like a traditional neighborhood bank, but its accounts still have FDIC insurance, so theyâre safe places to keep your money. Chime has no monthly or overdraft fees, and it lets you round up purchases to the next dollar and save the remainder. But it can be expensive to deposit cash.
Penalty for outsize CFPB complaints: NerdWallet deducted 0.5 star from Chimeâs overall rating due to the volume of complaints on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau database relative to the asset sizes of its partner banks, The Bancorp Bank and Stride Bank. For more information about this penalty, see our methodology page. For more context, learn about a ProPublica report on how Chime closed accounts involuntarily.
Best for: Customers who want to maximize savings account interest, are paid by direct deposit and don’t deposit cash often.

Whats The Process For Opening An Account With Chime Bank
Chime claims it takes less than two minutes to open an account. The banks application process can be accessed either through its website or mobile apps. To apply, you must be a U.S. citizen who is at least 18, live in the U.S. and have a valid Social Security number. You will also need to provide your birthdate and mailing address.
Having bad credit can adversely affect your applications chances of acceptance at many major banks, but Chime markets itself online as a second chance banking option. More specifically, this refers to the fact that it doesnt check your credit reports prior to making you an account holder. This policy could be a major lifeline for certain customers, and it is one of the hidden advantages of Chime.
