Outer Banks Town Nuances
Heres a funny thing: For years, vacationers have used the term Nags Head to describe their Outer Banks vacation, whether they were staying there or in Kitty Hawk. Somehow, Nags Head became a generalized directional term to describe the entire area of Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head. The little describes the big. Similarly, yet oppositely, when people are headed to Buxton or Salvo or Rodanthe, they often describe their destination as Hatteras. The big describes the little. All these Outer Banks town nuancesenough to get visitors confused!
Heres a locals birds eye observation: The northern end of these Outer Banks towns Corolla and Duck are the newest to the vacation destination scene, and as thus they tend to be a bit swankier, a bit more uptown looking with lots of must have amenities. The southern end Hatteras Island and Ocracoke is where you go if you want the simple Outer Banks towns of old where the amenities are more about simple pleasures.
Heres a locals tip: Roanoke Island, with its incorporated town of Manteo and its unincorporated village of Wanchese, is an absolutely charming little place where some of the most popular Outer Banks attractions are found, where theres a concentration of lovely B& Bs and small motels and where you can walk or bike almost anywhere you want to go. Yet, its not as busy as other Outer Banks towns. It quiet, has great restaurants and shops and is worth more than a day trip.

Who Are The Major Characters In Outer Banks Season 3
Heres a quick look at all the leading and important characters of Outer Banks who could be making a comeback in the upcoming third season of the teen drama.
John B Routledge or John B is the leading character of the story. He is the ringleader of the group of Pogue teens who is trying to find his missing father. He has been in a relationship with Sarah Cameron, a wealthy Kook, since season 1. In Season 2, after both John and Sarah are presumed to be dead, they somehow return to Outer Banks and reunite their friends, who try to clear his name, while dodging the intimidating Limbrey family. John and his friends are now looking for the Cross of Santo Domingo.
Sarah Cameron, Johns girlfriend and the love of his life. Though she belongs to a high-profile Kook family, she has left them behind when she finds out that her father and brother have blood on their hands. She becomes an official Pogue by extension of her relationship with John and her friendship with the other Pogue kids.
Kiara Carrera or Kie is Johns best friend. Technically, Kie is a Kook but she is a Pogue at heart and extremely loyal to her friends, much to her familys dislike. Kie and Sarah graduate to a close friendship in Season 2 while Kie navigates her off-again-on-again romance with Pope.
Apart from the Pogue gang, characters like Ward Cameron, Rafe Cameron, Carla Limbrey, Topper, among others could possibly come back to take their respective stories forward.
Where Is Outer Banks Filmed
If you end up going over to visit the Outer Banks, you’ll have a hard time trying to find some of the iconic locations from the show. That’s because the show was actually filmed in Charleston, South Carolina. According to the Wilmington Star News, the show ended up moving filming there due to “anti-LGBTQ legislation dating back to 2016’s House Bill 2.”
“When we wrote it, it was 100 percent Wilmington in our heads,” co-creator Jonas Pate told the Wilmington Star News. “We wanted to film it here. But Netflix made the right decision to insist on inclusivity and we completely agree with them.”
The show was originally going to film in Wilmington, North Carolina, which is about 6 hours away from the real Outer Banks. However, since the show is set on a fictional island, Jonas says they are able to freely film wherever they want.
“We were lucky because we werent trying to recreate Duck or anything,” he said. “It was a fictional town and island on the Outer Banks, so we could really create whatever visual landscape we wanted. Charleston is beautiful, but it is a rapidly growing city, so we had to cherry-pick pieces of it. Take these narrow snapshots and piece them together to create this fictional world of ours.”
For season 2, some of the characters on OBX made their way to the Bahamas, which is actually Barbados in real life. Outer Banks’ set decorator, Missy Ricker, and production designer, Daniel Novotny spoke to House Beautifulabout the show’s new location.

What Is Outer Banks Season 3s Story
Since the beginning of the series, John B and Sarah have been on a quest for treasure, along with the rest of their Pogue friends. With the murderous Cameron father-son duo and the intimidating Carla Limbrey on their back, its been quite a ride for this gang. In the second season of Outer Banks, the kids hunt for the coveted Cross of Santo Domingo and finally acquire it after a great ordeal. But only to lose it to the Camerons . Escaping death and jumping ships , they end up on a deserted island.
The second season also revealed an important arc about John Bs father who meets Carla and promises to help her find the Shroud of Turin, but only if she helps his son in exchange. All in all, the finale of Outer Banks Season 2 left a lot of questions and doubts. So, we are hoping that the new and third season will resolve all that.
For instance, we should see the Pogues finding their way back home but they might not give up on the treasures that they found. Theres also a high possibility that John might reunite with his father on the hunt for the Shroud of Turin.
On the other side of the story, we can also expect to see more romantic angles, especially between Kie and Pope. After all, its a teen drama and theres no adventure without a little romance thrown in. And maybe the real treasure was the drama we had along the way.
Outer Banks Towns A Rundown
From stem to stern, north to south, the Outer Banks of North Carolina is made up of 10 small towns that flow together into one long vacation paradise. Of course, this number includes Corolla, NC, on the northern end, which is technically in Currituck County, and Ocracoke, NC, on the southern end, which is technically in Hyde County . But locals and knowledgeable visitors recognize that, despite any official designations, both these bookend towns have long been considered part of the real Outer Banks.
In case you know little about this area, well give you a geographic rundown on these Outer Banks towns, starting north: Corolla, Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, Nags Head, Manteo, Rodanthe, Waves, Salvo, Avon, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras and Ocracoke. If you drive from one end to the other, counting in ferry time, it would take you about three hours. If youve not spent much time here, you wont realize when you leave Kill Devil Hills, NC, and enter Nags Head, NC. We locals know, but even we go on sight i.e. we probably couldnt tell you the names of the streets that separate these Outer Banks towns.

Where Can I Find Some Iconic Spots From The Show
Spots like Pitt Street and The Wreck, the restaurant where Kie works throughout the series, are real and located at the Old Village Historic District in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The beach is a 5-minute drive away, and the Charleston Harbor isn’t that far off. There, you can find Morris lighthouse, the iconic lighthouse from the show.
