Child Tax Credit: July 15 Deposits
Some families received another form of stimulus aid on July 15 when the IRS deposited the first of six monthly cash payments into bank accounts of parents who qualify for the Child Tax Credit . Families on average received $423 in their first CTC payment, according to an analysis of Census data from the left-leaning advocacy group Economic Security Project.
Eligible families will receive up to $1,800 in cash through December, with the money parceled out in equal installments over the six months from July through December. The aid is due to the expanded CTC, which is part of President Joe Biden’s American Rescue Plan.
Families who qualify will receive $300 per month for each child under 6 and $250 for children between 6 to 17 years old. Several families that spoke to CBS MoneyWatch said the extra money would go toward child care, back-to-school supplies and other essentials.
Families may enjoy more of a tax break in coming years, if Mr. Biden’s American Families Plan moves forward. Under that plan, the Child Tax Credit’s expansion would last through 2025, giving families an additional four years of bigger tax breaks for children.
If You Recently Got An Email About The Third Stimulus Check Don’t Open It
The FTC issued a new warning on Oct. 27, informing consumers that scammers are now sending fake IRS emails about the third stimulus check. Per the warning, the email states that you can get a third stimulus payment by clicking on a link that lets you “access the form for your additional information.” Unfortunately, opening this email won’t get you more money from the government.
“But the link is a trick,”Cristina Miranda, an official for the IRS’ Division of Consumer and Business Education, writes in the warning. “If you click it, a scammer might steal your money and your personal information to commit identity theft. It’s yet another version of the classic government impersonator scam.”
When Should I File A Payment Trace For My Missing Money
The IRS also offers a payment trace as a way to find your funds, including from missing stimulus checks. You can request a trace — which means filing an inquiry into the location of your IRS money — by mailing or faxing Form 3911 to the tax agency. Even if the IRS says you’re ineligible for advance payments, it’s best to submit a payment trace in case there’s a portal error.
Your payment will be traceable if it has been at least five days since the deposit date and the bank hasn’t received the money, four weeks since the check was mailed or six weeks if it was mailed to a forwarded address listed by USPS. If the check was mailed to a foreign address, you can ask for a payment trace after nine weeks.

How Do I Get An Update On My Child Tax Credit Check Status
Your recurring monthly payments should’ve hit your bank account on the 15th of each month through December. According to the IRS, you can use the Child Tax Credit Update Portal to see your processed monthly payment history. It’ll be a good way to watch for pending payments that haven’t gone through your bank account yet.
If you still haven’t received the money you’re owed, see if the Processed Payments section of the update portal has any information. If the payment was delivered, make sure your address and banking information are correct — especially if you’ve moved or changed banks.
To check on your payments online, you’ll need to register with your IRS username and ID.me account information. First-time users will need to have a photo ID .
If you’re checking your bank account, look for the deposit labeled CHILDCTC. If your bank has not received the deposit from the IRS, it won’t have any processing information for you if you’re trying to locate your check. If you think there’s an error, start by using the update portal to double-check the bank details the IRS has on file, including your account information and routing numbers.
Ask A Local Bank To Cash Your Stimulus Check
Since government checks are considered “safe,” some banks will cash stimulus checks for non-customersbut you might have to pay a fee. While many banks are waiving fees for stimulus checks, it’s best to call ahead to make sure. If there is a fee, it could run anywhere from $5 to over $20. Also make sure you bring at least two photo IDs with you .
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation , which helps regulate banks and insures bank deposits, has encouraged financial institutions to work with people impacted by the coronavirus crisis, including by waiving fees and easing restrictions on cashing non-customer checks. So, hopefully, there’s a bank near you that will cash your stimulus check without a fee.

If You Miss Out This Year
If you receive no $1,400 payment or a reduced check, but your income changes, you may be able to claim the money you are due when you file your taxes next year.
“Any change, either a slight reduction in earnings or even just putting more money in a traditional IRA or a 401 could yield a much bigger total payment when they do their 2021 taxes,” said Garrett Watson, senior policy analyst at the Tax Foundation.
“There’s a subset of folks who will be in that situation,” Watson said.
That also goes for this year’s tax-filing season for people who missed out on the previous $1,200 or $600 payments. You can claim a recovery rebate credit to recoup any money you were possibly owed. This is also available to people who typically do not file tax returns because their income is too low.
Are $2000 Monthly Stimulus Checks Possible
In response to President Biden’s American Jobs Plan proposal, a group of 21 senators on March 30 sent a letter urging the inclusion of stimulus checks in the legislation. The group called for recurring payments as long as the pandemic lockdown continued, meaning people would get monthly checks from the government. No amount for the payments was specified.
We urge you to include recurring direct payments and automatic unemployment insurance extensions tied to economic conditions in your Build Back Better long-term economic plan, wrote the group, which consisted of Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vermont, and others.
An earlier stimulus check proposal, put forward during the early days of the American Rescue Plan in late January, also suggested monthly payments until the pandemic is over, but did not mention an amount. However, Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota, tweeted earlier in January that she wanted to see $2,000 per month.
If that amount sounds familiar, it’s because now-Vice President Kamala Harris threw her support behind $2,000 recurring checks during the negotiations for the second stimulus check legislation in the summer of 2020.
The proposal has also gained plenty of support outside of Congress: Six online petitions calling for $2,000 monthly stimulus checks until the end of the pandemic have been posted. The biggest petition, on Change.org, has been signed by more than 2.8 million people and has a stated goal of reaching 3 million.

Missing A Child Tax Credit Payment Here’s How To Track It
If your December child tax credit check, or a previous month’s check, never arrived, we’ll tell you how to trace it.
If you haven’t received your child tax credit check, it could be late.
The monthly child tax credit payments have come to an end, but more money is coming next year. However, if you still haven’t received any checks or if you’re missing money from one of the months, you’re not alone. Many parents have faced child tax credit problems each month since the payments started. We can help you figure out what’s going on with your money.
For past payments, we found that if only one parent in a married household made a correction to banking info or a mailing address, it could have reduced the amount of the payment. Also, parents might have received more money than they qualify for due to outdated tax information from old returns, and inaccurate payment amounts could affect their taxes in 2022.
We’re here to help you figure out how to track your check online using the IRS Update Portal and file a payment trace if a few weeks have passed and there’s no sign of your money. Here’s the latest on the child tax credit extension. We’ve updated this story.
How To Track The Payment Status Of Your Stimulus Check
The IRS Track My Payment Tool is now available for this latest third round of stimulus payments, allowing you to check the status of your $1,400 check. Up until early Sunday morning, the Tool was only available for tracking the status of the previous $1,200 and $600 payments, but it has now been updated by the IRS to give information on these latest payments approved under the American Rescue Plan.
“Get My Payment updates once per day, usually overnight…Previous payment information is no longer available in Get My Payment,” the IRS says. “The first batch of payments will be sent by direct deposit, which some recipients started receiving as early as March 12. Additional batches of payments will be sent in the coming weeks by direct deposit and through the mail as a check or debit card.”

Third Stimulus Checks: Fund Release
Around 160 million Americans are believed to be eligible for these payments and many of them have been desperately awaiting further support as the covid-19 pandemic has shaken their financial foundations to the ground, however, it has been suggested that some of the nations biggest banks are in less of a hurry to hand over said money.
“The goal is to get these payments out at fast as possible,” stated one IRS official after Biden put pen to paper, and taxpayers are able to check progress from Monday . But there could be a delay depending on which bank you are with as some said they would not be doing any processing over the weekend.
Customers who are eligible to receive direct deposit of their stimulus payment may expect it as soon as March 17, 2021.
While the official payment date for the $1,400 stimulus checks has been established as 17 March, the likes of Wells Fargo and Chase have faced heavy criticism for not releasing those payments already being deposited by the IRS this weekend. But is that really out of kilter with the process?
‘payment Status Not Available’
Some people may receive the message payment status not available when checking the IRS site.
“If you get this message, either we have not yet processed your payment, or you are not eligible for a payment,” the IRS said.
If that happens, filers should check to make sure they meet the requirements for the money. Filers must have a Social Security number that is valid for employment and are a U.S. citizen or a U.S. resident alien.
The payments amount to $1,400 for a single person or $2,800 for a married couple filing jointly, plus an additional $1,400 for each dependent child. Individuals earning up to $75,000 get the full payments, as do married couples with incomes up to $150,000. Payments decline for incomes above those thresholds, phasing out above $80,000 for individuals and $160,000 for married couples.

Thousands Of Americans Living Abroad Got Stimulus Checks Heres Why
Thousands of Americans living abroad received stimulus checks during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to federal data.
While that may sound incongruous with the notion of “stimulus” for the U.S. economy, lawmakers generally had a sound rationale for sending funds overseas, according to tax policy experts.
“They are casting a very broad net and go to places where people think, ‘Did they really need to go there?'” said Kyle Pomerleau, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, a right-leaning think tank. “But I think the answer is generally, ‘Yes.'”
More from Invest in You:
The IRS issued more than 3.7 million payments worth $5.5 billion to individuals outside the 50 states and Washington, D.C., according to agency statistics. The figures include three rounds of pandemic-era payments through June 3, 2021.
The data encompasses U.S. citizens abroad, military members stationed overseas and residents of U.S. territories such as Puerto Rico.
Less than 1%
About 9 million U.S. citizens live overseas, according to the U.S. Department of State.
It’s natural many of them would get checks due to the expansive eligibility framework set by Congress, Pomerleau said.
The scope of the overseas payments is also small relative to the total 0.7% and 0.8%, respectively, of the $803 billion and 472 million payments issued over three rounds of funding.

Advance Child Tax Credit
Even if you dont pay any taxes, you may qualify for a refund of the CTC.
The CTC was expanded under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 for tax year 2021 only. If you are eligible, you should have begun receiving advance Child Tax Credit payments on July 15. The payments will continue monthly through December 2021. Under ARPA, families are eligible to receive:
- Up to $3,000 per qualifying child between ages 6 and 17
- Up to $3,600 per qualifying child under age 6
The Internal Revenue Service began sending out letters in early June to more than 36 million families who may be eligible for the monthly payments. Most families do not need to do anything to get their payments, as long as theyve filed their 2020 or 2019 tax return. Learn more about the letter and how it can help you determine your eligibility.
Who Gets Stimulus Checks First
American taxpayers are finally starting to receive the stimulus checks promised by the government to help them through the coronavirus crisis.
The IRS has begun sending out the economic impact payments approved by the CARES Act, and on the morning of April 13, social media was flooded with reports of people who had already seen $1,200 appear in their bank accounts. On Twitter, the No. 1 trending topic in the U.S. was #stimulusdeposit. Meanwhile, subreddits like /r/stimuluscheck discussed the details of who had and who hadn’t gotten their relief money yet.
Understandably, there are a ton of lingering questions about the delivery of the coronavirus stimulus checks. Take a deep breath, summon some patience and read on for answers.

What If I Don’t Get The Amount I Expected
Your child tax credit checks may have been less or more than you expected. If you meet all of the child tax credit requirements and find that you received less or more money than expected, there are a few steps you can take. Start by checking your eligibility based on your most recent tax return using the IRS Eligibility Assistant.
According to a : “There are multiple reasons why people may be seeing a different amount than they expected. If only one spouse changed an address or bank account, the other spouse’s half could be going to the old address or bank account. In these instances, the full payment will still be distributed. Monthly payment amounts can also change depending on recently processed tax returns.”
The IRS could have used your 2019 tax return to determine your eligibility for this year’s credit. Once the IRS processes your 2020 tax return, it will automatically adjust your advance monthly payments.
If you didn’t get one of your checks, you may still get it with the next scheduled payment date after the IRS makes an adjustment. Parents with missing payments this year should expect their remaining checks to be larger, as they will be spread out over fewer payments.
Some parents haven’t received any child tax credit checks yet.
Fourth Stimulus Check Possible Timeline
Right now, there is no fourth stimulus check timeline or fourth stimulus check release date. Until legislation is in motion, we can’t say how soon more relief money might arrive. We can’t say whether more relief money is coming, at all.
That said, the third stimulus check timeline happened rather quickly following Biden’s inauguration Jan. 20. It only took a few weeks for Congress to debate his American Rescue Plan. Once the president signed the bill on March 11, $1,400 checks were put in motion.
The IRS can begin sending out possible fourth stimulus checks in the same manner it sent the previous stimulus payments. Since the framework is already in place, Americans could begin receiving the fourth stimulus checks about two weeks after a relief bill allowing another round of direct payments is approved.
